Patenta pieteikums un patents bieži ir viens no rezultatīvajiem rādītājiem ne tikai pētnieciskajos projektos un tiek izmantots kā rādītājs zinātniskās institūcijas kapacitātes novērtējumā, bet arī, lai vērtētu un savstarpēji salīdzinātu uzņēmumu darbību.
Tomēr ļoti bieži aizmirstam, ka patents vispirms ir līdzeklis, kas palīdz noteiktu laiku nosargāt tirgū piedāvāta produkta unikalitāti, palīdzot atgūt ieguldījumus pētniecībā un nopelnīt. Lai labāk prognozētu iespējamā patenta pieteikuma vērtību, kā arī lai vispār izvērtētu patenta iegūšanas izredzes, pirms patenta pieteikuma iesniegšanas nozīmīgi ir veikt patentu meklējumu - izvērtēt esošo tehnisko informāciju, izpētīt kādi konkurenti darbojas tirgū un kādas iespējas radītu patenta pieteikuma iesniegšana. Noteiktās situācijās patents varbūt pat nav labākais risinājums, tomēr, ja plānots ieviest ražošanā jaunu produktu, svarīgi ir pārliecināties, lai netiktu pārkāptas konkurentiem piederošo patentu tiesības.
Lai atbalstītu un veicinātu izpratni par patentiem un to pielietojamību ne tikai pētnieku, bet arī uzņēmēju vidū, Latvijas Universitātes Inovāciju centrs pērnā gada nogalē uzsāka Eiropas Patentu iestādes atbalstītā pilotprojekta „Patentu informācijas centru pārveide” īstenošanu.
Projekta ietvaros LU Inovāciju centra darbinieki piedāvā pētniekiem un uzņēmējiem patentu meklējuma, patentu statistiskās analīzes un izgudrojumu komerciālā potenciāla novērtējuma pakalpojumus.
Lūk, ja uzņēmējs ir attīstījis potenciāli patentējamu izgudrojumu vai vēlas ieviest ražošanā produktu, bet nav pilnībā pārliecināts, vai netiks pārkāptas trešo personu ar patentu aizsargātās tiesības, kā arī citos līdzīgos gadījumos, uzņēmēji aicināti sazināties ar Latvijas Universitātes Inovācija centra darbiniekiem, kas atradīs nepieciešamo informāciju, vai sniegs atbalstu un konsultācijas patentu datubāzu izmantošanā.
